Acne is an inflammatory disease of the skin that can leave permanent scars on the face, neck and torso.

The good news is that, today, acne scars and other facial imperfections, such as wrinkles, brown spots and rosacea, are no longer an inevitable fate. Are you looking for a safe, effective, non-invasive treatment to improve the appearance of your skin or minimize scarring on your face? Fractional radiofrequency (FR) just might be the solution for you!

What is fractional radiofrequency?

This state-of-the-art anti-aging technique aims to renew skin tissue by heating the dermis, leading to contraction of the collagen fibers, stimulating the production of new collagen (a process known as “neocollagenesis”).

By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin fibers, the radiofrequency treatment activates the regenerative capacity of the tissue. The result? The skin of the face is rejuvenated, recovering its youthful tone, elasticity and radiance.

Completely natural and risk-free, this technique can treat a number of skin conditions, including the following:

  • Acne scars and other irregularities
  • Inconsistent texture
  • Rosacea
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Brown spots
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Hyperkeratotic lesions

Currently, two radiofrequency treatments are especially noteworthy for their efficiency: Venus Viva and Fractora.

Nanofractional radiofrequency with Venus Viva

Created by world-leading company Venus Concept, the Venus Viva device is unique in its class. Based on nanofractional radiofrequency with SmartScan™ technology, Venus Viva allows the technician to smooth the patient’s skin with utmost precision. It’s the only technology of its kind to give the operator perfect control over ablation, coagulation and smoothing in order to repair skin damage ranging from minimal to severe. In fact, ablation is essential for eliminating the tissue that needs to be regenerated and resurfaced.

Fractional radiofrequency with Fractora

Unlike the Venus Viva technique, which uses energy to create perforations in the skin, this fractional radiofrequency treatment requires the use of microneedles to create tiny holes in the skin. However, the goal of the treatment is the same: to stimulate the natural synthesis of collagen, tone and improve the appearance of the skin and erase acne scars and other blemishes. It is known as a “hybrid treatment,” as it combines radiofrequency energy with a device similar to that used in microneedling (a procedure that stimulates collagen production with the aid of sterile microneedles).

Is fractional radiofrequency painful?

The technician will apply an anesthetic cream approximately one hour before the treatment. However, during the treatment, it’s common to experience a warm, tingling sensation. After the session, the skin may become reddish, warm and slightly inflamed, as if it were sunburnt.

With Venus Viva, the pain is mild to moderate, and there will be a 24-hour recovery period. In the case of fractional radiofrequency with Fractora, the level of pain is moderate to high, and the recovery period will last for 48 hours.

Who can benefit from radiofrequency?

Radiofrequency can successfully treat all skin types. This technique is suitable for both men and women, regardless of the color of their skin.
