Wrinkles and fine lines

What explains the appearance of
wrinkles and fine lines

Over the years and as part of the normal aging process, collagen and elastin can be damaged, making the skin less firm. Other factors such as sun exposure, smoking or a diet low in vitamins and minerals, can accelerate the process of cell degradation resulting in premature aging.

Fine lines treatment

One of the first signs of aging are fine lines. More superficial than wrinkles, they often form in the most expressive areas of the face, such as crow’s feet, the forehead and the glabella (frown lines).

In order to prevent these fine lines from becoming permanently embedded in the skin, the injection of a botulinum toxin (Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®…) is one of the most effective treatments for this purpose. As the toxin temporarily mobilizes the dynamic muscles, the skin will no longer systematically frown and will eventually prevent these fine lines from becoming permanent wrinkles.

It is wrong to believe that older patients should have this type of injection, because it is by preventing them that we obtain a better result over time. It is possible to obtain a natural result without looking “frozen” or expressionless. It’s all in the art of the professional!

Fine lines under the eyes

Fine lines can also form on the cheeks and under the eyes. As soon as they appear, micro needling, CO2 fractional laser or fractional radiofrequency treatments can help to increase skin density and improve skin texture gently and without recovery.

Facial wrinkle treatments

While fine lines are superficial, wrinkles are deeper. They can be the result of fine lines that are now well anchored in the skin, or by a loss of volume in the adipose tissue. Even if there is no miracle anti-wrinkle solution, the best approach will often be a combination of treatments with various techniques.

First, technologies that provide skin tightening such as: CO2 fractional laser, fractional radiofrequency and intense pulsed light will be the first step of our skin rejuvenation treatment.

Then, if necessary, injections with hyaluronic acid-based fillers (Restylane®, Juvéderm®…) can complete our result, filling in deeper wrinkles or simply restoring volume where we have lost it with age. The procedures can be done independently of each other and the evaluation with Dr. Bernier is essential for a personalized approach.
