Labia reduction surgery (labia minora)
The definition of a female genital ideal varies among individuals. Most consider traits as ideal labia minora reduction (also known as labiaplasty) is once the reduction is done, labia minora not outwardly visible when standing. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. The technique is to trim the protruding labia along the entire labia length by keeping a natural contouring. It’s the same technique for a protruding clitoral hood or to correct asymmetrical labia minora.
The labia minora reduction has traditionally been performed by the trimming technique. The labial edge is excise and close with sutures. This procedure has the advantages of a short operative time and eliminating some dark pigmentation. The disadvantages of this technique are: eliminating the natural edge of labia minora and have higher risks to have a wide, irregular, asymmetrical and painful scar. This technique is often associate with an over resection of the labia. Because of the disadvantages, the central wedge technique was developed by Dr. Gary J. Alter a board certified plastic surgeon specialized in genital surgeries.
The central wedge technique has the advantage of keeping the natural edge of the labia minora, a less visible and painful scar and a partial reduction of the clitoral hood with the extended technique.
See before & after pictureLabia majora augmentation/reduction: Often after pregnancy or weight loss or as a result of aging the volume of labia majora can decrease and can create excess skin and wrinkling. The women who wish to recreate the youthful full genital appearance can have a fat transfer. Taken by traditional liposuction and once purified the fat will be injected in the labia. Because a percentage of the fat will be reabsorbed naturally by the body, the patient can expect the need of redoing the whole procedure another time.If majora hang lower with more redundancy, they can be reduced, depending on the cause: excess fat or skin or a combination of both.Mons pubis lift and reductionPubic lipodystrophy is often seen as a congenital deformity, which will not resolve with weight loss alone. The woman can complain of an unsightly protrusion that may lead her to avoid wearing tight clothes, bathing suits… If there is no excess skin, liposuction can be performed reducing the buldge. This procedure can be combined with a lift if it’s necessary.
After genitals surgeries, swelling, bruising and minor discomfort is normal. Most of patients are able to work a few days after surgery. The patient should avoid sexual intercourse, bicycle, backhorse riding and motocycle for 6 weeks after surgery.
